Chinese, Pakistani companies sign contract to jointly build light rail in Jordan

AMMAN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — China Electronics Technology Cooperation International (CETCI), a large state-owned company of China, has signed a contract with Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company (IDC) to jointly build a light rail for Jordan between Amman and the northeastern industrial center of Zarqa.
The 25 km long, two-way light rail, which is to be completed by the end of 2009, has a contract value of 200 million U.S. dollars and is the first such project in Jordan, Yan Lijin, president of the Chinese cooperation, told Xinhua.
The IDC is the general contractor for the rail’s building, operation and transfer, and the CETCI is contracted to build the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) part of the project, Yan said.
